care & maintenance

DAVSJÖ furniture is crafted from carefully selected natural materials and made to be used and appreciated for generations. With the right care and occasional maintenance, each piece will retain its character, function and beauty while developing naturally over time.

Natural materials such as solid wood, leather and metal will gradually change through use, light and their surrounding environment. These variations are part of the material's character and make each piece unique.

Below you will find our recommendations for caring for your DAVSJÖ furniture and preserving it for years to come.

TIMBER

wood

Solid wood is a natural material that develops character over time. With proper care and occasional maintenance, the surface will retain its beauty, protection and natural feel for many years.

For everyday care, we recommend wiping the surface with a soft, dry cloth. When needed, use a cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water. Avoid excessive water and always wipe away any remaining moisture with a dry cloth.

For more thorough cleaning, a suitable wood soap spray may be used when needed, but no more than once a week. Avoid strong detergents, abrasive cleaners and other products that may damage or dry out the oiled surface.

Regular cleaning with water will gradually reduce the wood's natural oils and surface protection. The furniture should therefore be re-oiled periodically to maintain its resistance to stains, moisture and drying.

The need for maintenance depends on use, exposure and how frequently the surface is cleaned. As a general guideline, we recommend re-oiling approximately once a year under normal use, or whenever the wood begins to appear dry, dull or less resistant to moisture.

Always clean the surface and allow it to dry completely before applying maintenance oil. Use an oil suitable for the original finish and follow the application instructions carefully.

Furniture finished with white- or dark-pigmented oil requires the same general care as naturally oiled wood. Because the oil contains pigments that contribute to the colour and appearance of the surface, we recommend using the corresponding pigmented maintenance oil when re-oiling.

Over time, natural variations in colour and patina may develop as the wood is exposed to light, use and its surrounding environment. This is a natural characteristic of solid wood and part of how the material ages.

Each piece is carefully oiled before leaving our workshop in northern Sweden. With regular care and maintenance, the wood will continue to age beautifully while preserving its character for generations.

METAL

metal

For everyday care, wipe metal components with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints.

When needed, clean with a soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap. Avoid abrasive sponges, strong detergents, acidic cleaners and other products that may damage or alter the surface finish.

Always dry the surface thoroughly with a soft cloth after cleaning to prevent water marks and help preserve the finish over time.Natural changes in appearance and patina may occur with use and age, particularly on untreated or naturally finished metals. This is part of the material's character and ageing process.

LEATHER

leather

Vegetable-tanned leather is a natural material that develops a unique character and beautiful patina over time. With proper care, it will age naturally and last for generations.

For everyday care, gently wipe the leather with a soft, dry cloth. When necessary, a cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water may be used. Avoid excessive water and allow the leather to dry naturally. For more thorough cleaning, use a mild leather soap or a cleaner specifically intended for vegetable-tanned leather. Always test any cleaning product on a small, concealed area before treating the entire surface.

In case of spills, absorb the liquid promptly with a clean, dry cloth without rubbing. Avoid strong detergents, chemicals and abrasive cleaning products, as these may alter or damage the leather's natural finish.

Vegetable-tanned leather has been treated during the tanning process and requires only limited additional treatment. Leather oil, balm or grease should be applied sparingly and only when needed to prevent the leather from becoming dry.
Always use a product suitable for vegetable-tanned leather and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Please note that conditioning products may darken the leather or alter its appearance and feel.

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and strong heat sources. Sunlight can naturally alter the colour of vegetable-tanned leather, while warm and dry conditions may cause the material to dry out over time.

Variations in colour, grain and texture, as well as natural marks such as scars, wrinkles and insect bites, are inherent characteristics of genuine leather. They do not affect its durability and make each piece unique.
Over time, exposure to light, touch and everyday use will gradually develop the leather's individual patina. This natural ageing process is part of the material's character and beauty.
